As an option, detectors with windows for applications with explosive gasses or harsh environments are available:
AR coated, inexpensive, high transmission from 2.5μm, robust and not affected by moisture
1.1 – 14 µm
Sapphire
Tough, scratch resistant, very transparent but cuts off at 6μm
0.1-5.0 µm
CaF2
High transmission to 8μm, but is a water soluble crystal
0.15 – 8.0 μm
BaF2
High transmission to 11μm, but is affected by moisture (less than CaF2)
0.5-10 µm
ZnSe
Tough, good to 22μm, but has lower transmittance
0.6 – 20 μm
